Early Childhood Education on the Swain Campus

AN EXPANSIVE PLACE TO GROW
D. Esther Swain, the founder of the Swain Campus, believed in extending learning beyond the classroom. She insisted on hands-on experiential opportunities that allow students to test ideas and apply knowledge. Swain’s expansive campus grounds, playground spaces, and outdoor learning venues provide ample opportunities for students to engage with nature, exercise, and explore their relationship to the world around them.
“This school embraces individuality and helps children grow into themselves, instead of molding them all into one kind of person. Here, kids become the best version of themselves.” – SWAIN PARENT
Program Options and Flexible Care

We offer flexibility to cater to your child's needs. Our full-day Kindergarten program provides a comprehensive educational experience, while Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten students can choose between full-day or half-day options. Preschool students may attend three or five days a week, allowing families to tailor their child’s schedule to fit their lifestyle.

Our Moravian Cub Program, designed for Preschool through Kindergarten students, offers a comprehensive, year-round experience.

This unique program combines Moravian Academy’s exceptional academic foundation with opportunities for enrichment, exploration, and connection during school breaks and summer months.
Families can choose the flexibility of traditional academic-year enrollment or enjoy the full extended Moravian Cub Program, fostering curiosity, growth, and community all year long.

Individualized Learning

Our Early Childhood classrooms are led by two instructors— a lead teacher and a collaborator— ensuring individualized attention. With a 7:1 student-teacher ratio, our faculty tailors learning plans to each student's unique style, collaborating closely with parents and learning support. Grounded in research-based practices, our child-centered approach fosters curiosity, recognizing and embracing diverse learning styles.

Weekly, students partake in comprehensive instruction covering language arts, math, social studies, science, Spanish, movement, and music. Employing developmentally suitable approaches, our youngest learners cultivate early literacy and critical thinking skills, laying the foundation for active engagement in the Lower School.

Fostering a secure and inclusive community is integral to our social and emotional curriculum. Responsive Classroom techniques, embraced across the Beginning School, feature teachers modeling positive language, establishing productive routines, and addressing misbehavior proactively and consistently, maintaining a unified approach across all grade levels.

Technology seamlessly integrates into the curriculum, enhancing the learning experience.

A School Counselor, Reading Specialist, and Learning Specialist offer year-round support to both faculty and students.
