MAX | After School Programs
Exploring to the MAX, All Year Long
MAX offers after-school and summer courses and camps for students from preschool to grade 12, fostering curiosity and a love of learning in a nurturing environment. These programs span a variety of academic, athletic, and creative areas, providing enriching opportunities for exploration and personal growth. Through MAX, students are encouraged to think critically, communicate effectively, and pursue their passions, helping them grow into thoughtful, well-rounded individuals.
MAX courses will be taught during the school year, school breaks, and throughout the summer for students to have fun, and also to supplement academic learning, whether for remediation or academic enrichment. Think MAX | Fall, MAX | Winter, MAX | Spring, MAX | Summer—four moments within the school year to explore MA to the max-imum.
MAX | Fall Program Details & Schedule
Typical Schedule: Most programs meet once per week from 3:15 PM – 4:15 PM.
*Please note: Specific meeting days, session duration, or times may vary depending on the individual program offering.
Dates: September 14, 2026 – November 20, 2026 (8 weeks of regular programming + 2 makeup weeks)
Schedule Details: Instructors will email enrolled families one week prior to the start date with specific class schedules, day-off dates, and required materials.
Extended Care Program
Moravian Academy offers Extended Care for Preschool through Grade 8 students on the Swain and Historic Downtown Campuses, operating after school until 5:30 PM on days school is in session.
Families must register pre-paid through CampBrain at least 48 hours in advance, with options ranging from $10 for early pick-up (up to 4:15 PM) to $20 for full-session care

3D Printing

What is 3D printing all about? Learn how to 3D print with Mr. Pomeroy! We will learn how to use Tinkercad to create fun objects to print on our school's Prusa 3D printer AND our new Bambu Lab P1S 3D Printer. Printing has never been this much fun!

Learn to bring a stage to life! In this exciting after-school program, we will be creating backdrops and props for this year’s 4th and 5th grade Lower School Player’s Fall musical production! We will be using a variety of hands-on mixed media techniques to prepare for the exciting culminating performance in January. This is a unique opportunity for students to create dynamic artwork that will take center stage! We hope you can join us!
Story and Movement

In this program, students will enjoy listening to an engaging after-school story and participating in fun movement activities inspired by the story. Activities may include acting out scenes, yoga, and structured movement designed to help students unwind, release excess energy, and transition positively from the school day.
Creativity Corner

If you have the creativity bug, this program is for you! This is your opportunity to use our art room materials to create those original projects you’ve been dreaming of. Each week students will be offered inspiration and guidance to help them bring their creative ideas to life.

Students will enjoy one episode of this classic science video series each week and then do a related experiment or project in the science lab. The Social Impact Lab

The Social Impact Lab is a student-led club where ideas become real community projects. Students develop leadership skills through project management, community outreach, and teamwork while creating solutions to local challenges. Squirreling Around!

Cheerleading

In this Cheerleading program, we will combine elements of dance and gymnastics into a fun, collaborative team sport. Students will work on mental skills such as goal setting, teamwork, and memory while also working on physical fitness skills such as flexibility, strength, and stamina. No experience is needed; however, if students have existing skills, we will build on and expand those skills.
Geocaching

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to use GPS technology and latitude/longitude coordinates to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors. Participants will learn how to use Garmin eTrex H GPS devices to find and hide our own “treasures” in and around the Lower School campus. Additionally, students will become familiar with our Earth’s coordinate system, Google Earth, and the geocaching.com website. Geocaching is exciting and addicting. It’s a great way to get outdoors and explore!
Inspired by Illustration

Learn to create artwork inspired by your favorite children’s book illustrators! Each class begins with a beautifully illustrated story, followed by hands-on art projects inspired by the book’s characters, settings, and imagery. Students will explore a variety of artistic mediums while developing their creativity and artistic skills. Come ready to read, imagine, and create!

The Swain Archery program introduces students to the fundamentals of archery in a fun and supportive environment. Students will learn range safety, proper equipment handling, technique, and etiquette. Through practice and skill-building activities, students will develop focus, patience, coordination, and confidence. No previous experience is required, and all skill levels are welcome. Students will enjoy learning a new sport while challenging themselves and building new skills.
Homework Habits: Strategies for Success

Students will learn practical strategies they can use right away to approach assignments with greater independence and efficiency. Musical Theater Workshop

Students will learn a solo and/or duet, as well as at least one group song, while exploring the musicals and shows where the songs originated.
