MAX | Summer - Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend MAX | Summer?
MAX | Day Camp and MAX | Enrichment Camps are open to all families, regardless of affiliation with Moravian Academy. MAX | Summer Term is reserved for students enrolled at Moravian Academy’s Upper School. 

Where does MAX | Summer take place?
MAX | Summer programming is hosted on two of Moravian Academy’s campuses:
  • Swain Campus: 1100 S 24th St, Allentown, PA 18103
  • Merle-Smith Campus: 4313 Green Pond Rd, Bethlehem, PA 18020
When do the MAX | Summer programs take place?
MAX | Enrichment Camps: Monday, June 15, 2026  through Friday, August 14, 2026
MAX | Day Camp: Monday, June 15, 2026 through Friday, August 7, 2026.

What types of activities are offered?
MAX | Enrichment Camps offer families a wide range of camp themes including sports, crafts, career exploration, dance, music, STEM, and pure play for younger students on both the Swain and Merle-Smith Campuses. 

MAX | Day Camps are specifically designed for rising grade 1 through grade 5 students, are offered exclusively on the Merle-Smith Campus of Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and include a weekly theme and trips to nearby destinations in the Lehigh Valley every week. There’s something for every child to enjoy!

Who teaches the camps?
MAX | Enrichment Camps are led by Moravian Academy faculty with the exception of our Dance Camps which are all taught by experienced instructors from the Lehigh Valley Charter School for the Arts. 

MAX | Day Camps are led by a mix of Moravian Faculty, university and college students, along with experienced faculty from Moravian and surrounding public and private schools. All instructors are certified to work with minors in Pennsylvania.

What are the daily hours of the camps?
Our Core Camp Hours are 9:00 AM–3:00 PM.
Extended Care is available on both campuses:
  • Early Arrival: 7:30–9:00 AM
  • Aftercare: 3:00–5:30 PM
Most camps follow the schedule above; however, some programs operate on alternate hours. Please check the individual camp descriptions for specific schedule details.

What is the minimum age requirement for children to attend MAX | Summer?
Children must be at least 3 years old by the start of the week they plan to attend to participate in our youngest camp offerings. Please refer to the individual camp descriptions for detailed information about specific age and grade requirements.

What is the cost of the MAX | Summer?
  • MAX | Enrichment Camps: $425 per week.
  • MAX | Day Camp: $425 per week
  • MAX | Day Camp (Spanish Immersion Program): $475 per week
While most MAX | Enrichment Camps and MAX | Day Camps follow the pricing structure outlined above, please note that some specialty camps may have different pricing due to program-specific factors. Be sure to review individual camp descriptions for exact details.

Are there any discounts available?
  • 15% discount between November 25–December 31, 2025
  • 10% discount between January 1–March 31, 2026
  • No discounts are available for Extended Care (morning or afternoon).
What is the cost of extended care?
We know families have busy schedules, so we’re pleased to offer convenient extended care options on both campuses:
  • Early Arrival: 7:30 – 9:00 AM
  • Aftercare: 3:00 – 5:30 PM
  • Cost: $20 per morning or afternoon session, purchased weekly
  • Drop-in Option: Families may use extended care as needed — the weekly rate will simply apply for that week.

How do I register my child for MAX Summer Camps?
Registration is available online. Depending on the program, families may need to complete additional steps, such as interviews or deposits, before finalizing enrollment. Instructions are provided during the registration process. 

What is the student-to-instructor ratio?
Most camps maintain a 1:10 to 1:15 ratio, ensuring personalized attention. Larger camps, such as dance and music programs, may include up to 40 students but will have multiple instructors to divide students into smaller instructional groups.

What should my child bring to camp?
Camp counselors will provide a detailed list of required items before your child’s camp session begins, including drop-off and pick-up instructions. All campers should bring a packed lunch and daily snacks from home. Additional items may vary by program, so please review the information provided for your specific camp.

What should my child bring for swimming, and are there swimming requirements?
For camps that include swimming, children should bring appropriate swimwear, a towel, and any other items noted in the camp’s preparation list. All swimmers are required to pass a swim test administered by certified lifeguards in order to participate in daily swim activities.

Is lunch or snack provided?
Families should pack lunches and snacks for their children, as meals are not provided during camps.

Can my child attend more than one camp?
Yes! Families are welcome to enroll children in multiple camps across different weeks or themes. You can also enroll in MAX | Day Camp one week and MAX | Enrichment Camp the next. 

What is the cancellation or refund policy?
Refund requests can be directed to the MAX | Summer Director at max@mamail.net. Refunds are typically offered for reasonable requests, subject to review.

How does MAX | Summer handle safety and security?
Moravian Academy provides on-campus security during all summer camps. 

Are camps open to non-Moravian Academy students?
Yes, MAX | Day Camp and MAX | Enrichment Camps are open to all families, regardless of affiliation with Moravian Academy. MAX | Summer Term is reserved for students enrolled at Moravian Academy’s Upper School. 

What happens in case of bad weather?
Outdoor camps have reserved indoor spaces to ensure programming continues during inclement weather.

Will my child be grouped with others of the same age?
Yes, children are grouped by age and grade to ensure an engaging and developmentally appropriate experience.

Are there programs for children with special needs?
Yes, we are offering two specialized learning support programs this summer:
  1. Summer Learning Intensive (Swain Campus): A 4-week program for K-8 students, led by Melissa LaRusso and her team.
  2. Summer Surge Reading and Math Program (Merle-Smith Campus): A 6-week program focusing on reading and math skills, led by Morgan Nordmeyer and her team.
Both programs maintain a 1:4 student-to-teacher ratio and require an interview and testing for admission.

Is financial aid available for MAX | Summer?
Financial aid is not available for MAX | Summer programs. However, if you are interested in one of our two learning support programs, we offer monthly payment plans for families who wish to enroll in either the “Summer Learning Intensive” on the Swain Campus, or the “Summer Surge Reading and Math Program” on the Merle-Smith Campus. To arrange a payment plan, you must first register and place a down-payment for either program. Once we contact you for testing and evaluation of your child, please raise the subject of a payment plan with the program administrator and we will work with you to determine your eligibility for a financial plan. 

How do you handle emergencies or health concerns?
Certified nurses are available on both campuses during camp hours, along with trained lifeguards and administrators certified in first aid. 

Is there a minimum number of campers required for a class, and what happens if it isn’t met?
All MAX | Summer programs depend on meeting minimum and maximum enrollment requirements in order to run. We will make every effort to notify families at least two weeks in advance if a camp does not meet the minimum enrollment. Full refunds will be issued for any camp that is canceled.
