Villars Institute Fellowship Program: A New Global Opportunity for Moravian Academy Students

Danielle Koren '03MA, Director of Student Activities
Moravian Academy is proud to announce a remarkable new opportunity for our students through our selection as a Villars Institute Partner School. This distinction places Moravian Academy among a select group of schools worldwide invited to participate in the Villars Institute Fellowship Program—an exceptional honor that reflects the strength, vision, and momentum of our community.

This partnership opens doors to an opportunity that is both highly selective and profoundly meaningful. We are excited to nominate two to four outstanding future leaders (current grades 9–11) who will benefit from a transformative educational experience centered on systems leadership and global sustainability.

A Powerful and Transformative Opportunity for Students
The Villars Fellowship is designed for students ready to engage deeply with complex global challenges. Fellows receive a rich education and sustained mentorship in systems thinking, leadership, and environmental stewardship.

In addition to this yearlong experience, Fellows will attend an intergenerational, interdisciplinary conference in the Swiss Alps next summer, an immersive environment where youth, innovators, researchers, and global leaders collaborate to inspire forward-thinking solutions.

About the Villars Institute Fellowship Program
Based in the Swiss Alps, the Villars Fellowship Program is a lifelong learning journey designed to empower the next generation of systems leaders through interdisciplinary and intergenerational collaboration. Fellows from partner schools worldwide share a commitment to developing positive, solutions-oriented approaches to environmental and sustainability challenges.

The Villars Symposium
Selected Fellows will begin their journey at the Villars Symposium, a multi-day interactive gathering that brings together experts, educators, entrepreneurs, and youth leaders. This experience introduces students to systems thinking, climate innovation, and global sustainability initiatives.
Following the symposium, Fellows continue their growth through the Villars Mentorship Program, and may access opportunities such as publishing in The Villars Review and engaging with research and essays from other Fellows and global changemakers.

Symposium Details:
  • Dates: June 14–18, 2026
  • Location: Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland
  • Chaperone: Mrs. Katherine Burd, Sustainability Coordinator and Merle-Smith Campus History Teacher
  • Eligibility: Current 9th–11th grade students
  • Cost: Students cover travel to and from Switzerland; room and board during the symposium are provided by the Villars Institute. Financial assistance for travel may be requested through the application.
