HDC Lower and Middle School Students Celebrate Día de los Muertos with Ofrendas
In celebration of Día de los Muertos, students in our HDC Lower and Middle Schools created ofrendas in their respective divisions. Beginning School families also participated by sending in photos of loved ones, which were added to the Lower School Ofrenda.
Students completed a worksheet titled “In Honor of My Ancestor” with their families, reflecting on stories and memories to prepare for this meaningful tradition.
Each student contributed an item that represented a loved one, such as a photo, favorite (non-perishable) food, or a special object. Photographs, printed or hand-drawn, depicted loved ones engaged in activities they enjoyed or captured a favorite memory. All items were clearly labeled with the student’s name, grade, and teacher to ensure they could be safely returned after the celebration.
During this year’s chapel meditation, students had the opportunity to share a few words about the item or photo they contributed. While not every student spoke during chapel, all reflections were displayed alongside their contributions on the ofrendas, creating a meaningful space for remembrance and celebration.
We thank families for supporting students as they participated in this special cultural tradition.
