This spring, 8th graders at Moravian Academy's Swain Campus took the stage for a deeply personal and meaningful milestone: the 8th Grade Inspiration Speech. As the culmination of our signature public speaking program, this tradition challenges students to reflect, articulate, and share their authentic voices—an experience that marks their transition from Middle School to High School.
Rooted in Moravian Academy’s mission to nurture joyful learners who communicate effectively, the Inspiration Speech invites students to explore questions that resonate far beyond adolescence: Who inspires them and why? What beliefs or passions guide their daily choices? What have they learned during their years at Swain? And where do they hope to go next?
Each student chose at least two of these themes to shape their speech. Guided by their humanities teacher in writing and supported by their drama teacher in delivery, students crafted compelling narratives that were as diverse as they were heartfelt. Their final presentations reflected thoughtful introspection, clarity of expression, and confidence—hallmarks of the Swain Campus experience.
This project is more than a public speaking exercise. It is a celebration of identity, purpose, and growth. By sharing their voices with peers and faculty, these 8th graders exemplified the spirit of Moravian Academy: poised, passionate, and prepared for what lies ahead.
