Kevin Ferdinand
We are proud to announce that the Moravian Academy Quiz Bowl team—Sajjad Issa '25, Charlene Liu '26, Captain Nathaniel Schmidt '26, Tyler Shankweiler '26, Hunter Zicherman '25, and Xavier Zumba '25—earned first place in the Pennsylvania State Academic Competition, held on Friday, May 2, at the State Capitol Building in Harrisburg.

The team demonstrated exceptional poise and intellectual rigor throughout the tournament, which took place in the House and Senate Chambers of the Capitol. Following two preliminary rounds—where they scored 95 and 70 points respectively—they entered the playoff bracket as the 5th seed. In the semifinal round, the team delivered a commanding performance with 100 points, defeating both the 2nd and 7th seeded teams. The championship match culminated in a tightly contested finish, with Moravian Academy prevailing by a single question, scoring 95 points to secure the title.

This victory marks the school's first State Academic Competition championship since 2001. The team will finish the year by competing in the National High School Quiz Bowl Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia, to be held over Memorial Day Weekend.

This championship caps a distinguished season in which the team also won the PBS Scholastic Scrimmage State Championship and the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 Regional Academic Competition, securing their place at the state level. In addition, they placed 5th in the Eastern Pennsylvania Quiz Bowl Tournament and competed in several invitational tournaments against nationally ranked programs, gaining invaluable experience and further honing their academic skills.
