NYC Experiential Learning Experience for the Class of 2028

From dinosaurs to climate change, from marine life to black holes, from Native American tribes to East Asian communities, the Class of 2028 was able to explore their world in their own way during their trip to New York City on Thursday, November 6th. The Class of 2028 had the opportunity to explore the American Museum of Natural History & Central Park with the goal of investigating the interconnectedness of themselves, the diversity of species that have existed on Earth, the many forms and variations of Earth's ecosystems, and similarities & differences between human cultures. Students were given the freedom of choice in the trip to focus their time on the parts of the Museum that most spoke to their interests and curiosities. There were groups that took on trying to learn a little bit of everything, and those that paid particular attention to things like; biodiversity, geological activity, sustainability, and sociology. No matter what way students approach the Museum, they were able to learn more about themselves, the world, and the peers they're with each day of school.

After spending time in the Museum, everyone then headed out into nearby Central Park to enjoy the connections between nature & humanity right outside! Students were able to explore Belvedere Castle and some even got to watch a wedding at the Bethesda Terrace. During our trip in the Park, many students also enjoyed food from the local food trucks and climbing on the large rock protrusions to get a better view of what all the Park has to offer. From beginning to end, the trip encouraged students to not only observe but also reflect on their role within the natural world and society. The freedom to explore, both indoors at the museum and outdoors in Central Park, allowed each student to take away something unique, whether it was a renewed curiosity for scientific discovery, a deeper appreciation of cultural diversity, or a fresh perspective on environmental stewardship. It was a meaningful step in their journey of learning about themselves and the world around them.
