Hugo Meyerhoefer '31 Earns National Track Cycling Championship

Swain Campus student, Hugo Meyerhoefer '31, recently earned a national championship title in track cycling at the USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships in Redmond, Washington.

The competition brought together the nation’s top junior cyclists, and Hugo rose to the challenge through dedication, discipline, and determination. Junior cyclists in the 11–12 age group compete for one national championship, awarded based on total points across four events: two scratch races (3 and 8 laps), a 10-lap points race, and a 500-meter time trial.

Hugo excelled in the 500-meter time trial, setting age group track records at both the Valley Preferred Cycling Center earlier this summer, and again at the Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome during the national championship.

Balancing rigorous training with academics, Hugo was able to compete at a high level without compromising his schoolwork, thanks to the support and guidance of his family and teachers.

This national title marks the culmination of a year of hard work and determination, showcasing Hugo’s talent, dedication, and passion for cycling.
