Third Grade Brings Music to Life with Their Own Storybook!

Ani Bermudez
What does music look like? What kind of story can it tell? Our third-grade students explored these questions through a fun and creative project inspired by The Carnival of the Animals by composer Camille Saint-Saëns.

This piece of music is full of playful sounds that represent different animals, from lions and turtles to kangaroos and swans. The students listened carefully to each movement and imagined what might be happening in the music. Was the lion walking proudly through the grass? Were the fish swimming quietly in a glass bowl? Everyone heard something a little different, and that’s where the stories began.

Each student chose one movement to focus on and wrote their own story based on what they heard and imagined. Then, they drew a picture to show the story they created. Some were funny, some were sweet, and all were filled with imagination. Together, they turned their stories and drawings into a class book. They even designed the cover themselves!

This special project brought together music, writing, and art. It helped students listen closely, and share their ideas in new ways. Most of all, it showed how music can inspire us to think beyond what we hear, and tell stories only we can imagine.

We’re so proud of the work the class has done, and we’re excited to share their book with everyone.
