EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT MAKES MORE HAPPY TRAILS FOR RECREATIONAL BICYCLISTS

The repair station installation was led by Malaver for his Eagle Scout project. The project was completed in partnership with the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, Inc. Funding was provided in part by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and administered by the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, Inc. The project was sponsored by the Bethlehem Township Board of Commissioners. 

According to Malaver, "The finished project included area design, digging, cement mixing and pouring, block, trail signage, and installation for a total of over 90 hours of community service with the support of fellow scouts of Easton Troop 24, parents, friends, and Luke Pokojni '24."   

The D&L Trail in Bethlehem Township is one of the busiest trails of the network. The repair station will assist the Township in its goal of becoming more bicycle-friendly. Already, bicyclists of the Lehigh Valley have taken note of Malaver's project, which generated a lot of positive buzz on social media. In particular, the bike repair station is praised for its ingenuity and for its accessibility. A QR code opens instructions on how to use the tools, so bicyclists of all experience levels can repair their bikes and get back on the trail. 

Malaver's goal was to build something that could "serve anyone, with any level of knowledge" to "support the safety of riders to help them get to their destination."
