Comenius Scholar Highlight: Asad Ali '28

The Comenius Independent Study Program offers Merle-Smith Campus sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to pursue their interests through self-directed research and creative work, showcasing critical thinking, curiosity, and a passion for learning within the Moravian Academy community.

Asad Ali '28 explored how analytics are shaping decision-making across the National Football League in his Comenius Project, Advanced Statistics in the NFL. His work takes the form of an in-depth research paper examining the evolution and impact of advanced metrics on the modern game.

Throughout the project, Asad investigates the origins of advanced statistics, tracing how data-driven analysis has grown in prominence and reshaped the way teams evaluate performance. He explains key metrics and concepts, providing context for how they are applied within professional football organizations.

His research also examines how teams apply analytics in real-time to guide decision-making on the field. He highlights how organizations that effectively use data can gain a competitive edge, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
