Three Moravian Academy Students Deliver Supplies to Underserved Communities in Nepal

Three Moravian Academy students recently completed an eight day trek to Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas of Nepal, driven by a shared commitment to service and global understanding as they delivered medical, dental, and school supplies to remote mountain communities along the way.

Sisters Celine ’26, Sophia ’28, and Julia ’30 Baki undertook the journey with their parents Ms. Sarah Murrat and Dr. Fayez Baki, to support access to essential healthcare and educational resources in regions where they are often limited. Trekking through high altitude villages with the guidance of local experts, they stayed in traditional tea houses and adapted to changing conditions, including mild daytime temperatures and freezing nights. Their journey brought them to elevations above 17,500 feet, requiring endurance, preparation, and resilience.

In advance of the trip, the family organized and collected medical and dental supplies through professional networks, helping equip clinics and support the needs of the communities they visited. The experience offered a firsthand look at how access to healthcare and education shapes daily life in remote areas.

This journey reflects the family’s continued commitment to service. In recent years, they have delivered supplies to rangers in Kenya and Botswana and supported community initiatives in the Mountains of Morocco. Through these experiences, Celine, Sophia, and Julia have gained a deeper understanding of how access to healthcare and education shapes daily life, further informing how they hope to engage with and support global communities.
