Honoring Those We Love: Día de los Muertos in Chapel
On Wednesday, October 21, Lower School and Middle School Chapel will celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican tradition of remembering and honoring loved ones who have died. Rooted in love rather than loss, the celebration invites us to share stories, keep memories alive, and recognize the lasting place our loved ones hold in our lives.
Contribute to Our Ofrenda
At the heart of the celebration is the ofrenda, a special display honoring the people and pets we remember. We invite your family to contribute a photograph, drawing, or small keepsake. A drawing might show your loved one doing something they enjoyed, and a keepsake can be any small object that brings them to mind.
If your child would like to participate, please complete the form below together, taking time to share stories and memories.
Please bring photographs and keepsakes to school by Monday, October 19, labeled with your child’s name, grade, and teacher/advisor. The form includes instructions for preparing your items, which will be returned the week of November 2.
Lower School Food Drive
Lower School families are also invited to support our first food drive of the year for Central Moravian Church’s food pantry. Placing a loved one’s favorite foods on the ofrenda is a cherished part of the tradition. In that spirit, consider donating a nonperishable food that reminds your child of a loved one, connecting the tradition of sharing favorite foods with caring for our neighbors.
Celebrate With Us
Thank you for helping us create a celebration filled with the stories and love our families carry. We look forward to remembering together.
