Comenius Scholar Highlight: Jay Lu '28

The Comenius Independent Study Program offers Merle-Smith Campus sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to pursue their interests through self-directed research and creative work, showcasing critical thinking, curiosity, and a passion for learning within the Moravian Academy community.

In his Comenius Project, A Comparative Study of Traditional Chinese Medicine Integration in China and the United States, Jay Lu ’28 explored how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is integrated into healthcare systems in China and the United States.

Using surveys, interviews, and academic literature, Jay compared how people in both countries think about TCM and how it fits into their healthcare systems. His research examined differences in the ways TCM is integrated in China and the United States and the factors that influence that integration.

Through this project, Jay shared that he learned more about the research process and gained confidence in his own ideas and voice as a student researcher.

His work demonstrates the value of independent research and highlights how students can explore complex topics through multiple perspectives and sources.
