Merle-Smith Campus student Nurbanu Calis ’27 has achieved an impressive milestone, with three of her artworks accepted into the 2026 East Central PA Scholastic Art Awards and Exhibition. The Scholastic Art Awards is a prestigious competition for students in grades 7–12 to showcase their originality and skill. Students’ works are first evaluated within their region (East Central PA), with Gold Key winners moving on to compete at the national level.
Nurbanu’s painting, 13 Years Ago and her fashion piece Pearl, each earned a Silver Key, and her charcoal drawing, Sarah, received a coveted Gold Key. Gold Key winners from the Eastern Central Pennsylvania region automatically advance to compete with Gold Key recipients from across the country, with the winners celebrated in New York City this June.
Nurbanu’s work will be on display at the regional exhibition at the Miller Gallery at Kutztown University from Saturday, February 14 to Sunday, March 1. The awards ceremony will be held on March 1 from 2 to 3 p.m.
Congratulations to Nurbanu on this remarkable achievement. Her creativity, skill, and dedication are truly deserving of this recognition.
