Merle-Smith Virtual Learning Plan For School Closures
Dr. Rachel Wright, Director of the Merle-Smith Campus
When school is closed due to weather, Upper School students are encouraged to take advantage of the unexpected time off to rest while also staying on top of their academic work. As high school students, they often have longer-term projects, upcoming assessments, and assignments that benefit from consistent progress, even when school is not in session.
Whether or not an official virtual learning day is called, students should check myMA, Google Classroom, and email for updates from their teachers, including changes to assignments or deadlines. Unless a teacher communicates otherwise, students should assume that previously assigned work and upcoming deadlines remain in place and should continue making progress on their assignments.
Occasionally, Moravian Academy will designate a weather-related closure as an official virtual learning day. These days allow us to take attendance and provide students with virtual access to their advisors and classroom teachers. On virtual learning days, teachers will assign work to be completed during the school day, and some assignments may require submission by a specified deadline as evidence of completion. Students are responsible for checking their virtual learning spaces and meeting the expectations for the classes that would normally meet that day.
Expectations on Virtual Learning Days
After receiving notice from the Head of School about school closure and timelines, families will receive an email from the Director’s Office with division-specific information.
