Michael Capofari ‘07

Basketball, Soccer, & Baseball
Michael Capofari ’07 was a standout multi-sport athlete at Moravian Academy, excelling across basketball, soccer, and baseball while demonstrating exceptional leadership and competitive drive.
On the basketball court, Michael established himself as one of the program's premier players. A three-time varsity letter winner and back-to-back team MVP, he served as captain and led his team to its first-ever District tournament victory—an achievement that marked a turning point for the program. He finished his career as a 1,000-point scorer, becoming just the third male in school history to reach that milestone, and held the single-season assist record at the time of his graduation.
In his senior year, Michael ranked second across the entire Lehigh Valley in scoring average at over 21 points per game and earned multiple Player of the Week honors from the Express-Times, The Morning Call, and the Bethlehem News. His performance earned him selection to the prestigious VIA All-Star Basketball Game.
Michael also made a lasting impact on the soccer field. A three-time varsity letter winner and team captain, he led Moravian Academy to win the "double"—a Colonial League Championship and a District XI Championship in the same season, which is an extraordinary accomplishment. His leadership and determination were instrumental in that historic run, and he was recognized as a multi-time Express-Times Player of the Week.
In addition, Michael was a two-time varsity letter winner in baseball, where he further demonstrated his versatility and leadership as a team captain. Beyond his playing career, Michael’s passion for sports continued. Inspired by coaches John Donmoyer and Bob Hartman, he joined the staff of Hall of Fame women’s basketball coach Barbara Stevens at Bentley University, contributing to scouting through statistics and film analysis. He remained active in athletics by coaching youth soccer, high school basketball, and AAU programs.
Today, Michael lives in central Connecticut with his wife, Molly, and their three daughters, Mary Kate (5), Meadow (3), and Maia (1).

2016 Field Hockey State Champions

PIAA Class A State Champions • Second State Title in Program History
2016 Field Hockey State Champions
The 2016 Moravian Academy Field Hockey team didn't just play a season; they authored a definitive chapter in the school’s storied athletic history. Guided by legendary head coach Debbie Bross, this squad combined veteran leadership with a relentless competitive spirit to capture the PIAA Class A State Championship—the second state title in program history.
The tone for this historic run was set during a high-stakes home opener against perennial rival Southern Lehigh. In a grueling overtime battle, the Lions emerged victorious, a win that served a dual purpose: it galvanized the team’s confidence and secured Coach Bross’s milestone 500th career victory. This early triumph laid the foundation for a season defined by grit and precision.
On November 19, 2016, the Lions faced Oley Valley in the state final. Moravian Academy delivered a masterclass in the first half, storming to a 3-0 lead. The offensive surge was led by standout Mayv Clune ’17MA, whose three goals punctuated a dominant performance. Ashley Pearce ’18MA added a crucial goal off a rebound, providing the necessary cushion to withstand a late Oley Valley rally. The 4-3 final score cemented their status as the best in the state.
The championship was the culmination of exceptional contributions from the entire team including a core group of Moravian Academy seniors: Mayv Clune '17MA, Nikki Pearce '17MA, Cecily Redfern '17MA, and Katie Schantz '17MA; and Notre Dame seniors Vivian Simone and Brittney Romanczuk.
Through their collective skill and unwavering teamwork, the 2016 team exemplified the excellence of Moravian Academy athletics. We honor them today for their historic achievement and their role in elevating the Lions' field hockey legacy.
