Welcome to MAX: Summer Camp

We offer camps and programs for children entering preschool (three-years-old) through grade 12. Choose from a variety of options in creative arts, academics, and sports offered on the Merle-Smith or Swain Campuses. Moravian Academy's skilled faculty and community members develop and teach these outstanding programs.
Enrichment & Sports Camps: Throughout the summer, a variety of enrichment and sports camps designed to pique a variety of interests are offered.
Spanish Immersion Camp: From June 17 - July 26, Spanish Immersion camps with a new theme each week are available.
Outside Vendors: Several of our camps are run by outside vendors. These vendors will set the price for their camps. Please use the link next to these camps to register.
Lunch: Students need to bring a bagged lunch if they are staying the full day.
Tuition:
Full-day camps run from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM and are $380.
Half-day camps run from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM and are $240 per week.
Cancellation policy: All camps are subject to a minimum enrollment. In the event of a cancellation, Moravian Academy will notify families in advance and refund the entire camp fee. No refund will be issued if a camper must cancel.

    Early Learners: Storybook Fun
    Age: 3-6

    Description: Explore the magic of storytelling with Early Learners: Storybook Fun Camp. Engaging activities, crafts, and interactive sessions make for a week of joy, imagination, and early learning excitement.

    French Language and Culture
    Age: 3rd to 6th Grade

    Description: During this camp, campers will be introduced to the French language as well as the culture. Campers will spend time learning about and immersing themselves in French cuisine, geography, traditions, landmarks, and more!

    Guitar and Ukulele

    Paseando por Latinoamérica
    Age: K to 3rd Grade
    Location: Merle-Smith Campus

    Description: This camp will be fully in Spanish. We will explore 5 different Latin American countries, one each day. What will we learn about each country? We will learn about their capital, draw and color their flag, draw their national animal, dance to their music, make a craft, and much more.

    Animation Camp
    Age: 2nd to 7th Grade
    Location: Merle-Smith Campus

    Description: Get animated! In this exciting camp we will explore a variety of different stop motion animation styles using a combination of hands on and computer based art mediums. Our animated journey will culminate in the creation of several short animated films! In addition to daily adventures in animation this program will also feature a daily swim time and lots of fun in the sun. We hope you can join us!

    Theatrical Play
    Age: Grades K to 2nd

    Description: This fun-filled week will encourage campers to express themselves creativity through imaginative play and preliminary acting exploration. Campers will dive into dramatic storytelling and games to bring out everyone’s creative side!

    Fencing Camp
    Age: Ages 7 & Up

    Instructor: Fates Fencing Academy
    Description: En garde! Ready! Fence! Our fencing class will have you mastering footwork, bladework, game rules, and top-notch strategy. Expect lots of fun drills, exciting games, and nail-biting bouting to get you prepped for the ultimate showdown: a beginner's competition at the end of the session. Fencers will get to choose between foil, epee, or saber . Bring your A-game and get ready to fence like an Olympian! 
    Fencing Camp is offered Monday-Thursday only.

    Basketball Camp
    Age: 4th to 9th Grade

    Description: Come join us at Basketball Camp! Our camp is designed to provide young athletes with a fun and educational experience that will help them improve their basketball skills while also fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for the game. Throughout the camp, campers will participate in a variety of drills, games, and scrimmages that will help them develop their dribbling, shooting, passing, and defensive skills.     Description: This camp will be fully in Spanish. Every day we will read a book, share ideas and perspectives, create art around it, practice inference and comprehension questions, and write a short synopsis. Movement, music, and games incorporated throughout the day.

    Spanish Immersion: Cardboard Creations
    Age: 3rd to 6th Grade

    Description: We will let our imaginations run wild and make all sorts of creations out of cardboard. Dream big! We could create model homes, toy robots, real chairs to sit on, rocket ships, tunnels. This camp will be run completely in Spanish.

    Jazz Improvisation

    Inspired by Nature
    Age: 2nd to 6th Grade
    Location: Merle-Smith Campus

    Description: Spend a week getting inspired by nature! In this exciting art camp students will create several crafts and works of art inspired by the world around them. We will learn about land artists, the upcycle art movement, and how to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. In addition to creating several exciting projects campers will enjoy a daily swim time, enjoy inspiring nature walks and trips to our Merel Smith community garden. We hope you can join us!

    Explore Engineering
    Age: 5th to 8th Grade

    Description: Interested in engineering? Spend the week sampling multiple disciplines including electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical, and computer engineering through hands-on investigations. Identify and solve problems using the engineering design process, examine real-world engineering applications and explore engineering careers along the way!

    Exploration of Theatre
    Age: 3rd to 5th Grade

    Description: This immersive week is designed to provide young performers with a comprehensive theatre experience. Through acting exercises, improvisation games, and scene exploration, campers will cultivate storytelling abilities and develop confidence by collaborating with peers to bring skits to life.

    Description: Dive into a world of hues through creative activities, games, and hands-on experiences. This camp sparks curiosity and imagination while laying the foundation for a lifelong appreciation of colors. Join us for a colorful journey of discovery and fun!

    Soccer Camp (AM Only)
    Age: 5th to 8th Grade
    Location: Swain Campus

    Description: Sessions are designed to teach skills through fun drills and games. Players should bring cleats (or sneakers), shin guards, a soccer ball, and a water bottle.

    Summer Sleuthing
    Age: 2nd to 5th Grade
    Location: Swain Campus
    Instructor: Sarah Locke
    Description: Students will dive into mysteries through books and activities. We will be cracking codes, learning investigation skills as we read, and analyzing clues as we uncover mysteries. After solving a few puzzling missions, we will use our sleuthing skills to create our own mysteries for others to crack.

    Art Around the World
    Age: K to 3rd Grade
    Location: Swain Campus
    Instructor: Leah Rubart
    Description: Travel around the world and learn about different cities, cultures, and artists and create art inspired by those travels. Everyday, students will travel to a different country around the world to learn about. At the end of the week, students will have many stamps in their passport along with a portfolio of art pieces to remember their travels.

    Habits of a Creative Mind
    Age: 9th to 12th Grade
    Location: Swain Campus
    Instructor: Lynn Gibson
    Description: The anchor text will be HABITS OF THE CREATIVE MIND by Richard E. Miller and Ann Jurecic, and this program will be geared toward older students interested in writing as well as in cultivating a creative and curious mind. This text promotes "questioning over arguing; curiosity over conviction; and mindful practice over mindless repetition" (Miller & Jurecic, p. v). Habits of mind that include curiosity, creativity, attentiveness, openness to new ideas, persistence, flexibility, and reflectiveness will be developed, and a growth-mindset will be emphasized. The authors assert "the best writing is curiosity driven" (p. 8), so bring your curious mind!

    Age: K to 2nd Grade

    Description: Grab your passports to explore the world! Explore the culture, music, stories, crafts, art, and food of Spanish Speaking countries around the world! Learn and practice Spanish while traveling to Spain, learning about soccer, mosaics, tapas, flamenco, completing escape rooms, and more!

    Spanish Immersion: Playmobil Worlds
    Age: 3rd to 6th Grade

    Description: In this camp, students will get a chance to create their own comics, stories or movies with the classic toys made by playmobil. Enjoy playing in your very own playmobil world, created by you! This camp will be run completely in Spanish.

    Cardboard Camp
    Age: 2nd to 7th Grade

    Description: Join us as we learn to use everyone's favorite art making material in new and exciting ways! Cardboard will guide our way through a variety of fun and engaging artmaking projects. In addition to several cardboard based projects both small and large, we will be enjoying swimming, and fun in the sun with friends each day.     Description: This week is designed to take one’s interest for theater to the next level. Campers will dive into the world of acting, explore different acting techniques, and work on scenes from a variety of plays. The focus for the week will be on character development, stage presence, and building confidence on stage. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just starting out, this theatrical week will challenge and inspire you.

    Description: Through stories, we will learn about Bearden's life journey and artistic process. We will read, write, reflect, and look closely at his art. Using the method Bearden called "collage painting," we will create art.

    Simply Complex Machines
    Age:  2nd to 7th Grade
    Location: Merle-Smith Campus
    Instructor: Brian Elstein and Brad Pomeroy
    Description: Join Mr. Elstein and Mr. Pomeroy for an exciting program where we’ll be creating a series of simple machines that join together into a complex creation! Inspired by Rube Goldberg, a well-known comic artist and engineer who designed overly complex machines that experiment with cause and effect, this exciting program will give participants the opportunity to create kinetic sculptural designs that encourage teamwork, experimentation and humor. In other words, we will spend an exciting week making complicated machines that do simple things! In addition to a daily helping of science, art and engineering, campers will also enjoy a daily swim time and some fun in the sun with their friends each day!

    Get Creative with Coding and Bots
    Age: 4th to 6th Grade

    Description: Explore robotics and coding in this camp! We'll design, build and code Lego EV3 robots to move and use sensors. We'll also create amazing games and applications in Scratch. Beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of experience are welcome!

    Science Explorers: Astronaut Academy
    Age: 7 to 11
    Location: Swain Campus
    Description: 3…2…1 BLAST OFF to discovering space and flight! Half day campers will explore the stars and constellations as you take an out-of-this-world sky tour in our homemade planetarium, prepare for lift-off as you build and launch your own rocket while learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion, complete a mission to Mars as you design and build your own model space station and work in engineering teams to construct space capsules that will be used to launch “eggstronauts”! Full day campers will continue to use their astronaut wits as we build air powered nano-rovers, make craters and dry ice comets, and work with a robotic arm as we learn how astronauts use robots to work on satellites. Come join us on our mission through outer space!

    SAT-PSAT-ACT PREP CLASSES - Week 1
    Age: 15 to 18
    Location: Merle-Smith Campus

    Description:  During the three-week course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of SAT, PSAT and ACT content and structure, and learn how to effectively navigate the various question types (reading/math/science) associated with each test format.

    SUMMER LEARNING INTENSIVE - Week 1 (by invitation only)
    Age: Grades 1-8
    Location: Swain Campus
    Instructors: Melissa LaRusso, Tara Holaska, Kelley Stout, and Eric Coffey
    Description: The Summer Learning Intensive Program on the Swain Campus is a four-week program offered to students who receive additional support throughout the school year. This opportunity reinforces and strengthens foundational skills in reading, writing, and math, setting students up for success the following academic year. Students will engage in small groups with skilled faculty to advance academic performance based on multisensory and interactive activities.
    Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    Cost: $500 per week

    Ag-STEM Discovery!
    Age: 4th to 6th Grade
    Location: Swain Campus

    Description: Discover how STEM-tastic agricultural science is! Farmers are scientists, engineers, technologists, computer scientists, and so much more. This week we will explore dairy and crop farming, forestry and aquaculture to figure out how the world is fed and the critical roles farmers play to ensure our needs are met. Join us!

    Nature Art
    Age: PS to K
    Location: Swain Campus

    Description: Go on a nature walk around the Swain Campus to collect some things that will then be transformed into beautiful art pieces.Throughout the week, artists will collect treasures from nature such as flowers, leaves, sticks, or pinecones that they will then use to create art pieces with. At the end of the week, students will take home their portfolio of all their nature inspired pieces.

    Multisensory Summer Reading Intensive
    Age: 1st to 3rd Grade
    Location: Swain Campus

    Description: Orton-Gillingham based reading instruction will be incorporated through multisensory games, crafts, and both indoor and outdoor activities. The daily schedule will include an O-G based reading/writing lesson followed by a brain break that might be a game, craft, or activity. We will also have a daily read-aloud and review time. Due to the nature of this session, enrollment must be limited.

    The Yoga Loft Summer Camp

    Instructor: The Yoga Loft of Bethlehem Teachers
    Description: Come join Teachers from The Yoga Loft of Bethlehem, as we STEAM our way through camp this summer - We will combine Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Music and Math along with Yoga & Mindfulness. Come join our experienced faculty, explore the many ways we can get creative with our postures, our breath, and learn some tools for calming, energizing and focusing all while making it fun - using games, art, music, and more to make this an unforgettable week for campers. We cannot wait to meet your campers! Mornings will begin with centering, moving and literacy. We will have an art/center/break. Afternoons we will explore one of the STEAM areas using tactile, hands on exploration. We will also incorporate games and movement, and we will close with a mindful moment.

Each day we’ll explore a new habitat as we dig for dinosaurs in the desert, make creatures of the rainforest, create an arctic home, erupt a volcano, and go spelunking in your own cave creation. There's so much to do in this exciting week of camp.

    Description: En garde! Ready! Fence! Our fencing class will have you mastering footwork, bladework, game rules, and top-notch strategy. Expect lots of fun drills, exciting games, and nail-biting bouting to get you prepped for the ultimate showdown: a beginner's competition at the end of the session. Fencers will get to choose between foil, epee, or saber . Bring your A-game and get ready to fence like an Olympian!

Students will engage in small groups with skilled faculty to advance academic performance based on multisensory and interactive activities.

    Design Your Own Camp!

    Description: In this camp, you will be both a student AND a teacher. Students will bring their talents and expertise in an area of interest and teach each other! Maybe you can teach us how to play a game or a sport. Maybe you have a knack for a craft or an art technique. Maybe you know alot about space or nature! What's your skill or favorite subject? Maybe you aren’t quite sure about what you would teach others, but you are super curious about all the fun things you might learn… join us anyhow and we will help you uncover your area of expertise!

    Back in Time: Life in the Colonial Period

    Aventuras Alrededor del Mundo: 4th Week

    Description: Grab your passports to explore the world! Explore the culture, music, stories, crafts, art, and food of Spanish Speaking countries around the world! Learn and practice Spanish while traveling to Mexico, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico learning about the Aztecs, papel picado, churros, arroz dulce, bachata, colorful alfombras, completing escape rooms, and more!

    Digital Photography and Lightroom
    Age: 6th to 12th Grade
    Location: Merle-Smith Campus
    Instructor: Amanda Bellucci
    Description: Participants will learn how to use a digital SLR camera in full manual mode and explore adjusting aperture, ISO, white balance, and shutter speed to achieve accurate exposures. Color theory, composition and the use of natural light will be explored to create stronger images. Learn the basics of Adobe Lightroom by editing photos taken throughout the week. Participants must provide their own digital SLR camera.

    Theatre and Beyond
    Age: 6th to 8th

    Description: This week is designed to take one’s interest for theater to the next level. Campers will dive into the world of acting, explore different acting techniques, and work on scenes from a variety of plays. The focus for the week will be on character development, stage presence, and building confidence on stage. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just starting out, this theatrical week will challenge and inspire you.

    Science Explorers: Fizz, Bang, Boom, Bot!

    Description: What do you get when you take the physics of motion, add in some electrifying experiments, and mix it up with some chemistry? Everyone has a blast! In our half day camp you’ll create your own battery-powered invention, experiment with light and flight, make your own kaleidoscope and experiment with giant floating bubbles. Stay for the full day and build your own motorized robot, use chromatography to separate the colors in candy, mix up some crazy chemical reactions, create an electric game, investigate the effects of air pressure, and compete in a tall tower engineering competition!

    Time Travelers
    Age: 2nd to 5th Grade

    Description: Students will explore the activities and games of now and long ago. We will learn about the culture of play in different time periods from as recent as the 2020’s to all the way back to ancient eras. We will play the games that are available and create the ones of the past that are not. As Time Travelers, we will also go into the future to create never seen before games! With all the possible indoor and outdoor games, we know we won’t get “board”!

    Scientists in Action!
    Age: 2nd to 5th Grade

    Description: Get your hands messy exploring a combination of science and art experiments. Some things we will do: Shake up ice cream from scratch, test out different slime recipes, color mix volcanoes, grow a mini greenhouse, and glue up fun crafts. Explorers will finish each day with a group game.

    A Journey Through Art (AM Only)

    Description: Take a journey through art while exploring various art styles and techniques. Lessons will be inspired by popular art movements such as realism, pop art and abstraction. Students will have fun expressing themselves through drawing, painting and sculpture!

    Found Objects Art Camp

    Description: A bin full of things you need to recycle? Or, do you have some things you just don’t use anymore? Turn them into incredible 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional pieces. Using recycled objects, students will paint, glue, and reconstruct them into pieces of art.

    Description: “Beyond the Limits” takes our future astronauts, space enthusiasts, and aviation admirers to new realms of knowledge, exploration and endless possibilities.     This camp is great for kids with prior coding experience with Scratch. Kids explore concepts related to Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence through the lens of gaming! Creating complex competitive games (such as PONG, Platformer, and AI Monster Runner), kids will learn how to program game characters with AI functionality, vary difficulty levels in interactive games, and use machine learning in game play! As they learn more skills, we will use AI to build out Python based games.  Students also get to build robots and program them to complete different missions.
