Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is an important aspect of involvement at Moravian Academy. All parents, alumni, and friends of the Academy are encouraged to become active in the school community. There are many volunteer activities, especially in the Family Association and Alumni Association.

  • Annual Fund Cabinet (All School)

    The Annual Fund Cabinet promotes continuous engagement between parents/guardians and the Academy and assists with the solicitation of charitable gifts for the Annual Fund and the benefit of Moravian Academy. Cabinet members serve as leaders, ambassadors, and supporters for the Annual Fund, and assist with class outreach and communications.
    Please contact Susan Parent in the Office of Institutional Advancement at sparent@mamail.net if you are interested in volunteering for annual giving efforts. No experience necessary!

  • Art Guild (HDC - Pre-K to Grade 5)

    The Art Guild assists the art teacher and provides hands-on help to students in the art room, organizes parent/guardian volunteers to help with special class projects as needed, and assists with setting up the annual art show in May.

  • The Benefit for Moravian Academy (All School)

    Our largest fundraising event relies on many volunteers to: acquire, catalog, and display items; promote sponsorship and sweepstakes sales; help with marketing and set up. Last year, approximately  $345,000 was raised.  We are looking for volunteers from all three campuses for this school wide event.

  • Candle Dressing (HDC and MSC)

    Hundreds of beeswax candles are “dressed” in special red paper trim for the traditional Christmas Vespers held in Central Moravian Church. Experience is not necessary—there are many friendly “teachers!”
  • Country Fair (All School)

    Games and crafts for kids, rides, prizes, food, farmers' markets, clothing and craft vendors, and entertainment are brought together on the Upper School’s Merle-Smith Campus at Green Pond. Volunteers plan this special family day and, along with students and faculty, oversee activities on the day of the Fair.

  • Golf Outing (All School)

    Parents/guardians, alumni, and friends enjoy a day of golfing at Northampton Country Club on Monday, September 29, 2025. Volunteers are needed to help obtain prizes and sponsorships, to promote attendance, and to help out on the course on the day of the event.  

    This year's Pickleball Tournament will be held separate from the Golf Outing on November 7, 2025 at St. Luke’s Sports Plex in Allentown, PA.

  • Grade Parents/Guardians

    Volunteers help to involve parents/guardians in classroom, divisional, and all-school events. In Preschool to Fifth Grade, volunteers assist the teachers with class parties and other activities as needed by class as needed.  In grades six to twelve, class parents/guardians assist in communication to families for the entire grade to help keep them updated on what's happening for families at the school.

  • Grandparents’ and Special Friends Day Gr. 9-12: ; Gr. 1-8 (HDC and MSC)

    In November, grandparents and special friends will visit the Merle-Smith Campus and grades one through eight on the Historic Downtown Campus.  Volunteers work with the Office of Institutional Advancement on arrangements, wrap Lovefeast cookies, and greet and host grandparents and special friends as they arrive for this special day.  
  • Harvest Feast (Swain Campus)

    Harvest Feast is a unique celebration of giving where all students, teachers, and administrators gather in the McCann Center and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together.  Food is presented by the Family Association and volunteers.  The students are seated according to birthday to allow all to share in new experiences with their teachers and peers.
  • Leadership

    The Family Association is looking for parents/guardians who are willing to serve on the Family Association Board of Directors by chairing a volunteer committee and/or assuming a leadership position. The Alumni Association is also always looking for alumni involvement.

  • Holiday Sale (All School)

    The Family Association sponsors a sale of evergreen wreaths, holiday bows, and ornaments. Volunteers make the bows and distribute the items on the designated pick-up/shipping date.
  • Library Guild (HDC - Pre-K to Grade 5)

    Library Aides assist the school librarians throughout the year, help with book inventory, conduct book fairs, and organize the popular used book sale at Country Fair.

  • Lovefeasts (HDC and MSC)

    Volunteers address invitations and wrap Lovefeast cookies for the various Lovefeasts Chapel Services throughout the school year.
  • Mailings (All School)

    Help is always needed for addressing, collating, folding, and sorting. This work is usually done during school hours in the Office of Institutional Advancement on the Historic Downtown Campus on the Swain Campus.
  • Moravian Academy Family Ambassadors/Welcome Families (All School)

    Returning families help to welcome new families—one-to-one—by answering or directing questions, offering ideas on how to get involved in the Academy’s many volunteer activities, and encouraging attendance at Family Association meetings throughout the year. There are opportunities for ambassadors and new families to meet up throughout the year.
  • Moravian Academy Lion Backers (Merle-Smith Campus)

    Volunteers help make visiting sports teams feel welcome at home games and tournaments. They also provide refreshments and snacks.

    We are looking for parents to specifically help with the following larger sporting events:

    Cross Country Lions Invitational
  • Pickleball Tournament (All School)

    The Pickleball Tournament will be held on November 7, 2025 at St. Luke’s Sports Plex in Allentown, PA. Enjoy more courts, more action, and more opportunities to connect with fellow players. Come rain or shine, the competition and fun never stop. The tournament will feature a delicious luncheon, fantastic prizes, and plenty of camaraderie.

  • Reunion (All School)

    We are working with members of the Alumni Association Board on this year's Alumni Reunion Homecoming Weekend, which will be held October 3-4, 2025.  We look forward to welcoming alumni and their families back on campus!

  • Social Activities for Middle School - S.A.M.S. (HDC Grades 6 to 8)

    Middle School students on the Historic Downtown Campus enjoy each other’s company while participating in these after-school activities.  Parent/guardian volunteers are needed to help plan and chaperone these events.  Volunteer clearances are required to chaperone.  To volunteer, please contact Jess McPherson in the Office of Institutional Advancement at jmcpherson@mamail.net.

  • Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day (All School)

    Volunteers plan a special thank you to our teachers and staff members. Help is needed with planning and setup.  Ways for all families to participate will be communicated via a campus sign up sheet and distributed close to the event.

  • Trunk or Treat (Swain Campus)

    Trunk or Treat is a fun, safe, and convenient way for children and families to celebrate Halloween and trick-or-treat in one location.  Families decorate tables and trunks in the theme of their choice so that the students may walk around and see the decorations and receive treats.  All candy is donated two weeks prior to the celebration so that treats containing allergens may be removed and all children may participate.  A list of candies will be provided closer to this date.  Students have the opportunity to participate in a Halloween parade around the school grounds.
  • VIP Day (Swain Campus)

    On VIP day, the Swain Campus celebrates the students and those "very important people" who love them. Family and friends are invited as special guests to be on campus to participate in a classroom activity, and so much more.
