How can you volunteer?

Volunteering is an important aspect of involvement at Moravian Academy. All parents, alumni, and friends of the Academy are encouraged to become active in the school community. There are many volunteer activities, especially in the Parents’ Association and Alumni Association.

  • Annual Fund Cabinet

    The Annual Fund Cabinet promotes continuous engagement between parents and the Academy and assists with the solicitation of charitable gifts for the Annual Fund and the benefit of Moravian Academy. Cabinet members serve as leaders, ambassadors, and supporters for the Annual Fund, and assist with class outreach and communications.

  • Art Guild – Lower School

    The Art Guild closely assists the art teacher and provides hands-on help to students in the art room. It organizes parent volunteers to help with special class projects as needed.   • Moravian Academy Auction - April 21, 2018

    Our largest fundraising event relies on many volunteers to: acquire, catalog, and display items; promote sponsorship and sweepstakes sales; help with marketing and set up. Last year, more than $165,000 was raised.

  • Candle Dressing - November 7, 2017

    Hundreds of beeswax candles are “dressed” in special red paper trim for the traditional Christmas Vespers held in Central Moravian Church. Experience is not necessary—there are many friendly “teachers!” 
  • Country Fair - October 14, 2017

    Games and crafts for kids, rides, prizes, food, farmers' markets, clothing and craft vendors, and entertainment are brought together on the Upper School’s Merle-Smith Campus at Green Pond. Parent volunteers plan this special family day and, along with students and faculty, oversee activities on the day of the Fair.

  • Father-Daughter Dinner Dance - May 5, 2018

    Each spring, the Upper School girls and their fathers enjoy a formal dinner dance—a Moravian tradition for more than 50 years. Volunteers take care of the arrangements, invitations, decorations, door prizes, and favors.

  • Global Awareness Committee

    Volunteers on the Global Awareness Committee work together to provide community events that allow our parents, staff, and students to engage in an activity that promotes global awareness. The Committee plans the annual International Family Festival, which will take place on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The festival will feature international cuisine, crafts and activities, a Parade of Nations, and performances, and music. All events will expose Moravian Academy families to the unique cultural and diverse aspects of our Moravian Academy community.   • Golf Outing - September 18, 2017

    Parents, alumni, and friends enjoy a day of golfing. Volunteers are needed to help obtain prizes and sponsorships, to promote attendance, and to help out on the course on the day of the event.

  • Grade Parents

    Volunteers help to involve parents in classroom, divisional, and all-school events. In the Lower School, volunteers assist the teachers with various classroom activities and chaperon field trips. Since parents provide such important supervision of students at these times, we ask that younger siblings do not accompany parents to these activities.   • Grandparents’ Day – Gr. 9-12: November 20, 2017; Gr. 1-8: November 21, 2017

    In November, grandparents visit the Upper School, Middle School, and grades one through five in the Lower School. Volunteers address invitations, work with the Office of Institutional Advancement on arrangements, wrap Lovefeast cookies, and greet and host grandparents as they arrive for this special day.

    The Parents’ Association is looking for mothers and fathers who are willing to serve on the Parents’ Association Board of Directors by chairing a volunteer committee and/or assuming an officer’s position.   • Mailings

    Help is always needed for addressing, collating, folding, and sorting. This work is usually done during school hours in the Office of Institutional Advancement at 7 East Market Street. 
  • Moravian Academy Parent Ambassadors

    Returning parents help to welcome new parents—one-to-one—by answering or directing questions, offering ideas on how to get involved in the Academy’s many volunteer activities, and encouraging attendance at parent meetings throughout the year. An Ambassador Event is hosted by the Headmaster and the Parents’ Association in late summer at the All School Picnic.
  • Moravian Academy Lion Backers – Upper School

    Volunteers help make visiting sports teams feel welcome at home games and tournaments. They also provide refreshments and snacks.
