Taking the Lead

Theater opportunities at the Middle School allow students to discover, develop, and refine their individual talents in a myriad of interesting ways on stage and in the classroom.

Special events throughout the year offer theatrical opportunities to all students. Our comedy Improv troupe performs in the fall; in the winter, our talent show allows students to showcase their scene work and skits; and a student drama takes the stage each spring to much applause.

At each grade level, theater education is incorporated into the English curriculum. Sixth grade learns about the Renaissance period and attends a Renaissance fair in costume. Seventh grade students study William Shakespeare and the theater of his era, with a focus on a different play each year. Our eighth graders explore a dramatic work and, in a radio play unit, study, write, and perform radio plays. Each year, all students also take part in a trip to see a production of a Shakespeare play.
