A Comprehensive Approach

The landscape of college admissions has changed significantly over the past 20 years. Many selective colleges have doubled or even tripled the number of applications they receive each year hence becoming ultra-competitive, and those that were seen as “safety schools” have now become increasingly selective as well. This can certainly cause a good deal of stress for families.

Through a series of developmentally appropriate seminars, parent information nights, guest speakers, panel discussions, individual student and family meetings, and other programming, the Moravian Academy College Counseling Office works to inform our community about the latest trends in college admissions and the nuts and bolts of the process in general. We see our role as educators who help to lessen the anxiety and demystify the process for parents and students.

The college counseling program provides comprehensive and informed assistance throughout the entire college search, selection, and application process. Students use the latest technology for their research and applications as they explore colleges and universities that will suit their talents, interests, and career plans. We see this process as one of growth and exploration that empowers students to take ownership of their search and eventually make informed decisions about a college or university that is the most appropriate fit for them. Once graduates arrive at the colleges of their choice, they are wholly prepared to take on new academic challenges.
Lisa Dubreuil
Director of College Counseling

Colgate University - B.A.
Lehigh University - M.Ed.

Lisa Dubreuil received her B.A. from Colgate University and her M.Ed. in School Counseling from Lehigh University. She worked in college admissions for a total of 15 years at both institutions before joining the College Counseling staff at Moravian Academy in 2009. Appreciating “this side of the desk” for the ability to see students grow and evolve over their four years at the high school level, Mrs. Dubreuil is particularly impressed by Moravian students’ development as scholars and individuals. She most enjoys the essay-writing process that comes with assisting a student in completing his or her college application. From the brainstorming stage all the way to the final draft, she possesses a special strength in helping students to articulate their story. In addition, she enjoys writing recommendations that capture a student’s unique intellect and spirit.
Kyle Shaughnessy
Associate Director of College Counseling

Ursinus College - B.A.

Kyle Shaughnessy received her B.A. from Ursinus College and went on to work in college admissions for three years at Cedar Crest College. She followed this role with a position in admissions at Lehigh University, where she pursued a master’s degree in Educational Leadership before becoming the Associate Director of College Counseling at Moravian Academy in 2012.
Mrs. Shaughnessy most admires Moravian Academy students for their ability and dedication to making outstanding contributions to their school and communities. Since making the transition from admissions to college counseling, she has enjoyed helping students discover the colleges and universities that truly fit their individual wants and needs. Mrs. Shaughnessy also enjoys her role as head girls’ lacrosse coach. As a former college athlete, her familiarity with the recruiting process and the NCAA Eligibility Center has helped to streamline the admission process for our student-athletes.
