Moravian Traditions

Discovering personal spirituality through
shared community experiences.

We emphasize empathy during traditions
that embrace our differences while creating
treasured memories.
Rooted in the beliefs and traditions of the Moravian Church, we see school life through a Moravian lens. It is a wide-angle lens, capturing a diverse community as it shares a spiritual journey to different destinations. In Chapel, we come together for prayer, song, stories, and reflection, celebrating our varied religious heritages and wrestling with questions of faith, meaning, and truth. Students learn about global religions, discuss ethical issues, and explore music and art as spiritual expressions.

Several times a year, we invite the extended community to join in time-honored traditions, such as Vespers and Moravian Lovefeasts, commemorating a Thanksgiving-like gathering in 1727 Germany. Students grow in their own ways, at their own pace, and through the lens of their personal faith, pursuing the moral and spiritual understanding needed to be grounded citizens in a complex world.

WELCOMING THE HOLIDAY SEASON THROUGH VESPERS

In what traditionally feels like the kick-off to the holiday season at Moravian Academy, our students and faculty present the community with a beautiful Middle and Upper School Vespers Service. Lower School Vespers is held during the school day. Both services feature impressive musical and vocal performances as well as scripture readings that helped us herald in the season.

Musical highlights included “O Holy Night,” the Moravian Academy Ringers, and “Morning Star” performances featuring fifth-grade soloists. Enjoy the 2019 service below.
