Arts

Expansive self-expression through
visual and performing arts.

Tapping into their imaginative spirit for creative,
multi-cultural projects, students explore the world at large
through their unique artistic lens.
Our spiraling arts curriculum not only introduces students to the skills and concepts for drawing, painting, rhythm, and musical theory but also enriches a student’s knowledge of the processes and practices of creating art.

Discussions about art history, art culture, artist visitations, and exhibitions on and off-campus are regular occurrences. Art makes its way into nearly every classroom, and students encounter endless opportunities to demonstrate their creative abilities in integrated lessons. We also celebrate the talents of our student body by showcasing their work in a variety of exhibitions, talent shows, and concerts throughout the school year.

Theater opportunities allow students to discover, develop, and refine their individual talents in a myriad of interesting ways on stage and in the classroom. At each grade level, theater education is incorporated into the English curriculum from Tenessee Williams to William Shakespeare to Maya Angelou. Additionally, our digital media curriculum prepares students to enter the annual Moravian Academy Film Festival each spring.

SUZUKI STRINGS PROGRAM

Students have the opportunity to take additional music lessons through our progressive ‘Suzuki Strings’ program beginning with monthly introductory pre-kindergarten classes in violin and cello and weekly lessons beginning in kindergarten.

Students in grades 1-3 are also part of a large string ensemble while those in grades 4 - 5 play in the string orchestra. The program is based on the philosophy that every child can achieve success and artistry through study and practice. We integrate technology with traditional approaches and involve parents in lessons and practice.

MORAVIAN ACADEMY BROADCASTING COMPANY

Every day in the Lower School a news program is broadcast into every classroom. A team of students writes and produces the entire show from appearing as reporters and anchors to manning the camera and sound equipment to running the teleprompter and choosing the shots. Guest appearances by students from other grades are highly anticipated throughout the school
