Registration for Summer Explorations is now open! Use the link at left to register for all school-run camps, use the link in the description to register for camps run by non-Moravian staff.  

Programs will run most weeks from June 20 - August 19, depending on enrollment: 
  • Programs for students age 3 - Grade 12
  • Programs will be held at the Swain and Merle-Smith Campuses.
We will work to provide as much flexibility and convenience as possible:
  • Half and full-day options 
  • For credit, enrichment, and sports programs

Code Advantage Kidbots
In this junior robotics course, we use a hands-on approach to STEM discovery. Students learn valuable coding concepts while tapping into their imaginations to create and program robots. Step by step, we build a variety of cool Lego robots based around a motor and controller. Then, kids use a block-based programming language to make their creations come to life! It’s educational, cool, and FUN!

Code Advantage Action Scratch
Coding is the language of the future! In this super fun class, kids learn fundamental programming concepts including loops, conditionals, and variables by creating a variety of games and adventures! Kids marvel at how they can program Scratch to play baseball, program a dragon to fly around the world, and go surfing using math!! This intro to coding forms a solid foundation that can be used in other advanced programming languages.

Sport and Exercise Science Camp: Week 1
Breaking down sports and exercise into a science! How can the human body reach such great heights? In this summer program, we will dive deeper into the details of sport and exercise by examining the science behind it. How can we increase an athlete's 40 yard dash time? What repeated exercises can increase a person's vertical? How many catches a day does a wide receiver need to catch to see an increase in his hand-eye coordination skills? Let's play sports, exercise, and run experiments to find out! Using the body and mind together can be a powerful thing!

McHoops Basketball Camp
Scott McClary, currently the head basketball coach at Bethlehem Catholic HS, has been running camps for 33 years and has built McHoops into the most popular and successful camp in the Lehigh Valley. Minecraft Code: Harry Potter Adventure
Welcome to the World of Witchcraft and Wizardy! In this class, students will learn to code while exploring an interactive Harry Potter world in Minecraft! Every class is a new adventure and opportunity to put coding fundamentals into action. Traveling to Hagrid’s hut, the Quidditch pitch, Privet Drive, Diagon Alley, and beyond, kids will take on quests, fight off some monsters, and cast some magic spells!

Python Game Quest
Time to create your own video game! Learn coding fundamentals of Python while creating your own version of a classic video game. Code Advantage Pokebots
Calling all Pokémon fans to join us on this fun-filled adventure to catch ‘em all! This class uses LEGO® robotics to create creatures of all shapes and sizes. Students have a blast making them move by learning coding fundamentals! From programming a Magikarp to swim to building a Ryhorn to respond to a motion sensor, kids also learn about gravity, friction, torque, and angular velocity. This entertaining and educational introduction to robotics is a blast even if your child isn’t into Pokemon - these fantastic creatures are very relatable to everyday animals - all are welcome!

Drone Camp
Description: Join Mr. Pomeroy for a comprehensive, challenging, unique, and engaging weeklong drone course. Novice and experienced pilots are welcome and encouraged to participate. The course will be tailored for age-appropriate skills and missions. Drone pilots can expect to learn about flight safety, an introduction to flying skills (free flight), individual and team drone competitions/challenges, autonomous flight, obstacle course design, aerial photography, and drone maintenance. Moravian Academy has four DJI Tello drones for use but purchasing individual drones for your aspiring drone pilot is recommended and encouraged for this course (but not required). Whatever your decision, this is a priceless experience for your child. (Once registration is confirmed, we will send out specific recommendations for drone and drone accessory purchases should you choose to purchase your own drone.)

Early Learners Active All-Stars
Come and spend a week on Swain’s beautiful 22-acre campus as children will kick start their summer learning about different kinds of sports. The morning will be the sports focus of the day, fun crafts to go along and complement the lesson, and of course, playtime. The afternoon will be used to test out their skills and their interest in the sport! Sports being taught include but are not limited to: Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, and Dance!

Far Out Space Academy
3…2…1 BLAST OFF to discovering space and flight! Half-day campers will explore the stars and constellations as you take an out-of-this-world sky tour in our homemade planetarium, prepare for lift-off as you build and launch your own rocket while learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion, complete a mission to Mars as you design and build your own model space station and work in engineering teams to construct space capsules that will be used to launch “eggstronauts”!   Full-day campers will continue to use their astronaut wits as we build air-powered nano-rovers, make craters and dry ice comets, and work with a robotic arm as we learn how astronauts use robots to work on satellites.  Come join us on our mission through outer space!

Jr. Discoverers
Come join us for a week of fabulous hands-on fun and get elbow deep in botany, oceanography, astronomy and entomology! We’ll dissect a plant and learn what each part does, plant seeds in your own terrarium, investigate a real octopus, learn about animals that live in shells, make a constellation viewer, and explore space in our homemade planetarium. We’ll also “bug out” as we make insect habitats so we can investigate our 6 legged friends.

Fizz, Bang, Boom, Bot!
What do you get when you take the physics of motion, add in some electrifying experiments, and mix it up with some chemistry? Everyone has a blast!  In our half-day camp, you’ll create your own battery-powered invention, experiment with light and flight, make your own kaleidoscope, and experiment with giant floating bubbles. Stay for the full day and build your own motorized robot, use chromatography to separate the colors in candy, mix up some crazy chemical reactions, create an electric game, investigate the effects of air pressure, and compete in a tall tower engineering competition!

Rockin’ Concoctions
We’ve taken our after-school club topics from 2021-2 and turned them into a fun-filled week-long camp! We’ll explore the science of kitchen chemistry, travel back in time to discover the mysteries of the Earth, examine the world of wacky creatures, and become a Science Explorers CSI! Half-day campers will discover the amazing transformation of cream to butter, grow crystals, erupt volcanoes, mine for gemstones, create slug-slime, learn how to lift fingerprints, and extract DNA from bananas. Full-day campers will continue the fun as they participate in a dinosaur dig, create cast fossils, make gooey gumdrops, freeze their own slushies, solve more forensic cases, mix up a vampire bat treat to eat and examine the anatomy of a frog, and complete an optional dissection!

Impossible Shots!
In the spirit of the YouTube sensation, “Dude Perfect” series, we are excited to offer an opportunity for students to showcase their amazing talents and trick shots. This program is student-driven and will reveal how much time, effort, and sometimes luck it takes to pull off seemingly impossible feats. Brainstorming, planning, implementing, refining, and video production will be utilized to make our own “Yo! Perfect” video. If the students meet with success, we will have an amazing experience to share. If met with failure, we will likely have quite a blooper reel. Join me to make the impossible possible!

AI Gaming and Machine Learning
Ever wondered…How Alexa can understand and respond to you? How enemies in video games can work together to try and beat the player? Or how Google can guess what you are searching for before you finish typing? In this course, students learn introductory concepts of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Kids will use these concepts (including augmented reality, simulated learning and functions, and AI behaviors) to create fast-paced interactive games such as Fruit Ninja, Chatbots, Rock/Paper/Scissors, and AI Pets! This exciting class gives your child a better understanding of what the buzz is all about while having a blast designing their own games!

Using LEGO® robotics, students will learn about some of the coolest environments on the planet. Minecraft Code World Adventure
Grab your passports, we are off to explore new worlds within the Minecraft realm! Students will learn to move, explore, build, and code within Minecraft while visiting exciting places including ancient Egypt, Tokyo Disneyland, Chicago, the wizarding world of Hogwarts, and more! Students will use their knowledge and creativity to design projects on their own. Students do not need prior experience with Minecraft.

Code Advantage Kidbots
In this junior robotics course, we use a hands-on approach to STEM discovery. Students learn valuable coding concepts while tapping into their imaginations to create and program robots. Step by step, we build a variety of cool Lego robots based around a motor and controller. Then, kids use a block-based programming language to make their creations come to life! It’s educational, cool, and FUN!

Summer Term Pre-Calculus

Summer Term Pre-Calculus is designed to prepare students for the study of calculus. Topics include elementary algebraic functions (polynomial, rational, power), piecewise, logarithmic, exponential, and trigonometric functions, algebraic manipulation skills, and methods for solving equations. Exposure to logarithmic, exponential, and trigonometric functions is at the introductory level.

Available to students who end the year with a B+ or higher in their current math class.  Prereq:  alg 1, alg 2, geometry.

HONORS:
A fast-paced and intensive course in preparation for AP Calculus (AB or BC). This course will meet for the first three hours with PreCalculus, and then stay for an additional hour to pursue additional content. Topics: the properties and techniques of advanced graphic, solutions of the elementary functions (polynomial, rational power, piecewise, exponential, logarithmic, logistic, and trigonometric), complex numbers, sequences and series, and an introduction to limits. Polar coordinates will also be investigated. Students in this course are expected to purchase a T1- 84 graphing calculator. Prerequisite: Minimum final year grade of B+ in Geometry Honors
