Description: This class uses LEGO ® robotics to create animals of all shapes and sizes and then make them move by applying coding fundamentals. Students will also learn about the animals and how their bodies help them perform specific tasks. Along this fun and educational journey, students will also learn about concepts like torque, traction, and angular velocity. This is a great “hands-on” class that helps kids realize the power of coding and get them excited to learn!

Description: Learn to create artwork like your favorite children’s book illustrators! This class will introduce a number of well-known illustrators, giving students the opportunity to take inspiration from children’s literature to create exciting works of art.

Geocaching
Grades: 4th - 5th

Description: Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to use GPS technology and latitude/longitude coordinates to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors.  Participants will learn how to use Garmin eTrex H GPS devices to find and hide our own “treasures” in and around the Lower School campus.  Additionally, students will become familiar with our Earth’s coordinate system, Google Earth (website), and the geocaching.com website.  Geocaching is exciting and addicting.  It’s a great way to get outdoors and explore!

littleBits: Electronic Adventures
Grades: 3rd - 5th

Description: littleBits takes Legos to the next level!  With easy-to-use electronic building blocks, students can create a myriad of electronic gizmos.  Their creations can be simple or complex, practical or fanciful, serious or lighthearted!  Largely self-directed, students embark on an electronic adventure full of excitement and discovery as they develop their virtues of patience and perseverance through trial and error.  Allow your child to take advantage of the Lower School’s  littleBits Pro Library and liberate their minds with endless possibilities!  Need more convincing?  Google “TED Talks littleBits” and watch the 5:19 minute video. 

Scratch Coding Introduction and Beyond
Grades: 4th - 8th

Description: Do you like to code or do you want to learn how to code? Scratch is for beginners, experts, and everyone in between! Bring your coding skills with you or learn coding as you go. Each afternoon will be a new adventure - we will make games, images, quizzes, and more. There's no limit to what you can do with Scratch!

Board and Card Games
Grades: 3rd - 5th

Description: Come to play your favorite games like Candy Land, Uno, Monopoly and more! We will have many board and card games to choose from. No need to bring your own games, but you may bring your own board and card games from home if you want. Learn how to take turns, follow directions and most importantly have fun!
