After-school explorations will run from 3:15 - 4:15 pm. The winter session will begin the week of January 16 and run for six weeks. Each class will be $120. Outside vendors run some explorations. The vendor will set the price for these classes, which may run longer than six weeks. Please use the link next to these classes to register.

Sports with Jeff Seibert

Each week we will play a different sport (Basketball, Pillo-Polo Hockey, Volleyball/Newcomb, etc). We will be focusing on our skills in each sport, sportsmanship, and having fun. I cannot wait to see you there!
 
Exploring Origami with Brian Elstein
Day: Monday
Grades: 2-5
Join us as we explore the ancient Japanese art of origami. Learn many basic folds you will need to know to master the most elaborate origami designs. Guided by Mr. Elstein, students will create several folded paper toys while developing fine motor skills and craftsmanship.

Minecraft Code: Superheroes with Code Advantage (outside vendor)
Day: Monday 
Grades: 3-5
By modifying (modding) Minecraft’s underlying code, kids create powerful objects and special powers that do not usually exist in the game. Kids learn to code their own mods using a drag-and-drop interface - students literally “hack” the game and bring their imaginations to life - all while learning Java fundamentals (a widely used programming language).
Key Skills students will build in class:
  • Learn fundamentals of Java programming
  • Create Minecraft mods, blocks, and more!
  • Customize Minecraft using functions, variables, and control structures
  • Apply creativity and critical thinking skills

Hip Hop Dance with Ms. Klos-Gunther

Grades: K-5
A high-energy class where students are encouraged to explore their own personal style. Age-appropriate hip-hop moves will be introduced, and children will learn how to create their own hip-hop steps, as well. There will be a short in-class performance for parents on the last day of class.
  
Camp Marshmallow Mondays with Mr. DeMenichi

Grades: 1-5
Camp Marshmallow Mondays include many activities like games, song singing, and crafts.  Also, special weeks will include Camp Marshmallow Olympics, science STEM Challenges, a photo scavenger hunt, and we will end with a talent show! Come for a fun experience!
 
Paper Quilling Fun! With Mrs. Quinn

Paper Quilling is a fancy word for rolled-up paper, but it’s an incredibly fun and creative work of art. Students will learn how to roll thin strips of paper, glue them together and form decorative designs.
 
Board and Card Games with Mr. Keretz

We strive to teach each child valuable life skills while having a lot of fun through various competitive and cooperative board and card games. Students will play through classic and new-age games that enhance their logic and reasoning. 
  
Friendship Bracelet Making with Sr. Yerrington

Come learn how to make friendship bracelets and hang out with friends! Each week we will learn a different style of friendship bracelet. We will go through each one step by step. Materials will be provided, and you'll get to keep all six different styles, or they'd make great gifts for your friends!

Did you ever wonder how your favorite cartoons are made? Here is your chance to create your own animated film using the exciting stop motion method. Our program will culminate with the opportunity for our student videographers to enter their original films into our annual Moravian Academy Film Festival.

Have you ever been bored?  What would you do without the internet, TV, movies, and video games?  Would you be bored?  Does boredom stress you out?  Join Mr. Pomeroy and discover some strategies to ensure you will never be bored again!  Life is too exciting to be bored!  Find your hidden creativity and have a blast!
 
Field Hockey with Ms. Quinn

Grades: 1-5
Learn to play field hockey or sharpen up some skills you already know with Mrs. Emily Quinn, the JV field hockey coach, and teacher at Moravian. Players will need a mouth guard, shin guards, sneakers, a water bottle, and a stick (a few will be available to borrow). There will be time to change into athletic clothes after school. No experience is needed! Please reach out to Mrs. Quinn for stick sizing help.
 
Spanish Club with Sr. Monedero

A cultural exploration 'trip' through Spain. We will learn about art, food, dance, and literature in a very playful way using funny crafts, simple cooking, and fun dancing skills such as... Flamenco!

Our student directors will learn to make films using iMovie in this exciting after-school program.  Our young filmmakers will collaborate to create storyboards, film, and edit their original movies. Our program will culminate with the opportunity for our student artist to enter their original films into our annual Moravian Academy Film Festival. 
 
Scratch Jr: Game Time Coding with Code Advantage (outside vendor)

Kids have a blast solving problems, designing projects, and creatively expressing themselves. They will make short stories, apply animation elements, and create their own sprites and objects – all using technology and coding fundamentals!

Beginner Cheerleading/Dance with Mrs. Rios

In this 6-week course, campers will learn motions, cheers, jumps, stunts, and dance. This course aims to teach teamwork, partnership, and communication with their peers. At the end of the course, students can perform a cheerleading and dance routines made up of each topic covered.

Have you wanted to travel to other countries and experience different cultures?  You should join the International Explorers Club!  We will look at different countries and cultures in our club meetings and learn about them.  We will explore some of their languages and dances, make arts and crafts, hear stories, and try the food!  At every meeting, we will explore a different country, and we can discuss as a group what countries/ regions we want to visit.

Fun with Melty Beads with Mrs. Stitt

During fun with melty beads, students can make one-of-a-kind creations with Perler Beads, aka Melty Beads. Using fine motor skills and lots of creativity, they can bring home a new design each week!

Ever wonder how YouTube, Google, or Instagram were created? Python. This versatile and widely used programming language is a great next step for experienced programmers. It also offers an “on-ramp” to middle school students ready to learn to code!
Python is a powerful, “typed” language that will allow students to build a series of applications and explore complex graphics, animation, and sound to become a “real-world” programmer!
Key Skills students will build in class:

littleBits takes Legos to the next level! With easy-to-use electronic building blocks, students can create a myriad of electronic gizmos. Their creations can be simple or complex, practical or fanciful, serious or lighthearted! Largely self-directed, students embark on an electronic adventure full of excitement and discovery as they develop their virtues of patience and perseverance through trial and error. Allow your child to take advantage of the Lower School’s littleBits Pro Library and liberate their minds with endless possibilities! Need more convincing? Google “TED Talks littleBits” and watch the 5:19 minute video. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to use the “Everything” App by Tinybop, which replicates many of the littleBits
capabilities in a virtual format on iPads.

Let's get creative while exploring drawing, painting, and sculpture! We will use a variety of media to produce wonderful works of art as we learn to see the world through the eyes of an artist!

TUESDAYS
Minecraft Code: Harry Potter with Code Advantage (outside vendor)
Grades: 1-2
Students will build, edit, and explore a full course of fun and educational projects in Minecraft. Kids can recreate real-life structures while learning about architecture, physics, and circuitry. Kids learn to move to and explore within Minecraft. Then, move on to building and crafting. By the end, students will use their knowledge and creativity to make projects on their own. Students don’t need prior experience with Minecraft or coding.

Level 1: Learn the fundamentals of Minecraft while designing your own house, farm, zoo, and more.

Level 2: Explore the secrets of brewing, enchanting, and the power of Redstone.

Level 3: Design trap doors, defend against "mobs," and hidden doors - everything you need to bring your Survival skills to the next level.

Learning to code at any age is beneficial to students. Similar to learning another language, early exposure can help a child pick it up with confidence and ease. During the class, they will program their own interactive games, stories, and animation. Kids have a blast solving problems, designing projects, and creatively expressing themselves.

Level 1: Make short stories by adding characters/backgrounds. Apply elements of animation (e.g., movement, rotation, and speed). Create dimension and depth by shrinking, growing, and hiding characters (sprites)

Level 2: Create your own Sprites and objects using the drawing tool, interact and communicate with different characters, and add different settings in a story using pages

Level 3: Kids put all their coding fundamentals to work by designing and customizing their very own games! A perfect way to turn screen time into SKILL time!
