Making Music & Finding Your Voice
In the Lower School, Moravian Academy has the unique opportunity to enrich the lives of students in a holistic way through our music program, which emphasizes seven core elements: rhythm and beat, melody, tone quality, expression, form, tonality and harmony, and movement. This is achieved through singing, rhythmic experiences, music writing, creative movement, technology, use of classroom instruments, and listening to music samples. Students also gain exposure to ‘Orff’ instruments (xylophones, glockenspiels, and metallophones) and have the opportunity to learn a wind instrument in the fourth grade.
Performing is a big part of the music experience at the Lower School. All grades perform during our traditional Christmas Vespers service and have other opportunities to participate in recitals, formal concerts, and chapel services throughout the year and share their gifts and talents with family members and the community.
