Caring for Patients Is A Family Affair for Saira Agarwala '12

Based in the Lehigh Valley, St. Luke’s University Health Network is a center of medical education excellence with a top-notch medical school and an expanding residency program.

Moravian Academy alumna Saira Agarwala ’12 is currently in her second year of medical school at Temple University’s St. Luke’s program in Bethlehem after completing her first year at the university’s Lewis Katz School of Medicine main campus in Philadelphia.

As part of the St. Luke’s University Health Network, Saira joins her brother Anshul Agarwala, currently a St. Luke’s third-year orthopedic resident; her father Dr. Sanjiv Agarwala, chief of medical oncology, and hematology at St. Luke’s Cancer Center and a professor of medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University; and her mother Dr. Meena Agarwala, a St. Luke’s internist who performs both inpatient care with the internal medicine residents and outpatient primary care.

Saira came to Moravian Academy in 8th grade, and she recalls being “immediately drawn in by a supportive group of people in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.”

It was at the Upper School where she made strong connections with faculty and uncovered her passion for science. Said Saira, “I was surrounded by students with ambition, goals, and dreams, which really motivated me.  By the time I went to college, I felt better prepared than my peers, and not intimidated by the workload.  Moravian gave me the confidence to put myself out there.”
