The
Van S. Merle-Smith Woodworking Studio was dedicated September 29, 2007.
More than 80 people attended and celebrated the official opening of this
amazing facility. Mr. George N. King, Jr., Headmaster, and Robert H.
Brown, Trustee and the Chair of the Development Committee of the Board of
Trustees, took the opportunity of the dedication to thank Mrs. Katherine
Merle-Smith Thomas and the Merle-Smith family who made this facility a
reality. Mr. Barnaby J. Roberts, Headmaster of Moravian Academy from
1998 to 2007, spoke to the audience about Rev. Van S. Merle-Smith for whom
the Woodworking Studio is named. At the end of the dedication, Mrs.
Merle-Smith Thomas was presented with gifts from two seniors who have
enrolled in woodworking classes and then she cut the ceremonial ribbon.
