New Faculty & Administration at Academy:

September 4, 2007:  Moravian Academy welcomed a diverse group of professionals to the school community this fall. Hailing from the business world, industry and educational institutions, they contribute an exciting wealth of talent and experience to the Academy.
      

Michael Brolly, George King (Headmaster), Christopher Eckman, Alan Saft, Brad Pomeroy, Nathan Shorb and Marian Grencer. Missing from picture:  Melika Troxell

Michael J. Brolly -Mr. Michael Brolly joins the upper school faculty to create and establish a woodworking program in the newly built woodworking studio in Walter Hall. Mr. Brolly recently completed his MFA at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He also holds a BA in Fine Arts (cum laude) from Kutztown University as well as a number of honors bestowed by his alma mater. Mr. Brolly has received numerous awards for his woodturning creations. Christopher D. Eckman - Mr. Christopher Eckman comes to Moravian Upper School from the Henry Ford Academy in Dearborn , Michigan where he has taught for several years. Over the last ten years Mr. Eckman has taught in several independent schools in Washington , DC and Argentina . Mr. Eckman holds a BA in history from Amherst College and an MA in Social Studies Education from the University of Michigan .  In addition to teaching US history and economics, Mr. Eckman will coach baseball and be senior class sponsor.

Marian D. Grencer - Mrs. Marian Grencer has been appointed as the full time upper school nurse after several years of part time and substitute work at the upper school. Mrs. Grencer is a registered nurse and a certified school nurse. She holds a BS in Nursing from Albright College and an MS in Nursing from the University of Maryland . Mrs. Grencer has previous experience in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and schools where she has not only been a practicing registered nurse, but also a health educator. She will be a member of the SAP team and work with the health education programs.

Bradbury S. Pomeroy - Mr. Bradbury (Brad) Pomeroy will be joining the fourth grade team. He came to the Lehigh Valley from New England to attend Lafayette College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.  After fifteen years in industry, he returned to Moravian College to secure his Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Certification in elementary education.  Upon receiving his certification he was employed as a fourth grade teacher at Miller Heights Elementary School in the Bethlehem Area School District . 

Alan Saft - Mr. Alan Saft joins the Middle School faculty to teach eighth grade English for one year as Ms. Masick continues on leave.   Mr. Saft has degrees from East Stroudsburg and Kutztown Universities .   He recently retired from several years of teaching at Central Bucks East High School in Doylestown where his responsibilities included AP English.  

Nathan P. Shorb - New to the faculty as one of our fifth grade teachers will be Mr. Nathan Shorb, a life long resident of the Lehigh Valley and graduate of Southern Lehigh High School.  He continued his education at Taylor University in Upland , Indiana , where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Endorsement in Science and Mathematics.  Presently he is pursuing his Masters of Science in Classroom Technology at Wilkes University .  He comes to Moravian Academy after teaching mathematics at Broughal Middle School in the Bethlehem Area School District . 

Melika K. Troxell  - We welcome Ms. Melika Troxell as the Spanish teacher for students in grades 4 and 5.  Ms. Troxell received her Bachelor of Arts with dual majors in Spanish and Elementary Education from Lebanon Valley College .  While in college, she studied abroad in Salamanca , Spain .  Ms. Troxell has first-hand knowledge of elementary age language acquisition since as a kindergarten student she was introduced to the Spanish language and culture through the Spanish Emersion program at Southern Lehigh School District.  Ms. Troxell has tutored grade school students in basic Spanish and has taught Spanish at St. Michael the Archangel Middle School
